When management and administration are handled properly and in sympathy with the organization's needs and goals (assuming they are articulated clearly), the entire enterprise benefits in many ways. The problem is, most managing is done by partners, and partners resent spending time that is not billable, and some partners - though excellent lawyers in themselves - make horrible managers.
